Dh4 million worth of rough diamonds seized at Dubai International Airport
Dubai: Dubai Customs has recently foiled an attempt to smuggle rough diamonds worth over Dh4 million through Terminal 1 of Dubai International Airport, officials reported on Tuesday.
The items were recovered from a female African national who was acting suspiciously at the airport inspection unit.
Customs staff at Terminal 1 said that two sealed bags of rought diamonds were found wrapped around the suspect's body.
Two clothing bags were also found on the suspect, who went through an "intestines detector machine".
The Valuation Department of Dubai Customs said the rough diamonds weighed 53.500 crates and were valued at Dh4,325,500.
The passenger has been transferred to the relevant security agencies for further legal action.
