Base jumper fined for plunging off Burj Dubai

Dubai: A British skydiver who jumped off Burj Dubai's 150th floor with a parachute strapped to his back has been fined Dh2,000.

Meanwhile, a French skydiver was slapped a similar fine after the security guards stopped him at the 24th floor before he reached Burj Dubai's rooftop and jumped with a parachute.

Presiding Judge Rifa'at Mahmoud Othman of the Dubai Court of Misdemeanor incriminated the Frenchman, H.D., and the Briton, D.G., with trespassing into Burj Dubai's premises without the consent of the property owners.

Advocate Samir Jaafar who represented Burj Dubai owners lodged two separate civil lawsuits against H.D. and D.G. who have been each asked to pay Dh20,500 in temporary compensation against damages which were incurred by the property owners.
