Abu Dhabi: At least 116 trucks have been confiscated from the western region of the capital over the past two weeks as part of the highway safety campaign organised by the Abu Dhabi Police.

Since the campaign began on April 13, traffic patrols have been beefed up and intensive monitoring is under way at Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Tarif. The main focus of the campaign is the accident hot spots along the highway.

Major Ahmad Abdullah Al Shamsi, Head of Traffic patrols management in the western region of Abu Dhabi, said the trucks were confiscated taking into consideration the best interest of all road users.

98 trucks were confiscated for poor condition of tyres while six were for dangerous driving.

Al Shamsi stressed the need for owners of heavy vehicles to unsure the condition of the tyres.

Other offences include using roads where heavy vehicles are not allowed and over-loading the vehicle.
