Suspects hid the tablets in envelopes inside five black sports bags

Dubai: A joint team from the General Directorate for Drug Control and Dubai Police’s anti-narcotics department in cooperation with Sharjah and Ajman Police, have seized 149,860 controlled tablets.

Police said the suspects hid the tablets in envelopes inside five black sports bags.

Major General Abdul Jalil Mahdi Mohammad Al Asmawi, director of the anti-narcotics department at Dubai Police, said that cooperation between Dubai Police and the General Directorate for Drug Control helped in the swift arrest of the suspects.

Major General Al Asmawi, who is the Vice-Chairman of the UAE Supreme Committee to Combat Drugs, said that police received information the suspects were in possession of huge amounts of drugs.

The defendants kept five bags on the back seat of their car, and were heading to Khor Fakkan. The police patrols followed the suspects.

Major General Al Asmawi said that the defendants also hid drugs in the roof of their car and under the seat. They were to deliver it to a person of Asian nationality.

Major General Al Asmawi said the suspects have been arrested and the case transferred to the public prosecution.
