Sharjah: A two-year-old is fighting for her life in hospital after an accident when she pulled a shelf and a TV fell on her head, inflicting severe injuries including internal bleeding, doctors said.

There was no adult in the room when the accident occurred.

Police said the Yemeni girl, Manar Fuaad Abdul Rahman, is in a coma at Al Qasimi Hospital since last week.

The girl's father told police that his wife had called him to rush home as the child was badly hurt. "I found my daughter unconscious and rushed her to hospital," he said.

The father said the girl was playing at her home in the Al Darari area in Sharjah. "She pulled at the bookshelf and the TV set fell on her," he said.

Doctors said the girl's life is in danger. "Her life is in danger. The TV which fell on her head caused the internal bleeding," an attending doctor said. The girl is breathing with the help of a ventilator.

Warning

Police again warn parents not to leave their children unattended.

"Such incidents happen because parents are careless," a police officer said.

Doctors from the hospital said they receive many cases of children who injure themselves after they are left unattended by parents. "Many of them fall down the stairs, a window or the balcony," police said.
