Canada Day to be celebrated on July 2
Dubai: Canadians across the UAE will mark Canada Day with a special event on July 2 at P.J. O Reilly's bar in Abu Dhabi's Le Royal Meridien hotel.
Canada Day, which is celebrated on July 1, marks the joining of the British colonies of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and the Province of Canada into a federation of four provinces - the Province of Canada was divided into Ontario and Quebec during the process.
Pam Simmons, Executive Director of the Canadian Business Council of Abu Dhabi, said it was a great opportunity for UAE-based Canadians to network with each other.
She said: "A lot of people have gone home for the summer but this event means we can still celebrate Canada Day with people who appreciate Canada."
According to the Canadian embassy there are over 12,000 Canadians living and working in the UAE with the majority employed in business, education and medicine.
