'Cakes for charity" begins today at Mercato Centre

Dubai: The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) and one of its support partners for the Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) Food Surprises theme week, Jumeirah, is organising the much-awaited 'cakes for charity" event at the Mercato Centre today at 6pm.

DTCM Manager Events and Chairman of Food Surprises week committee, Marwan Bin Beyat, said: "The programme has remained a big draw with the Dubai residents and visitors from different nationalities. This year, the numbers of cakes are more and we expect more proceeds to go to the charity organisation."

Abdin Nasrallah, General Manager Hospitality Bab Al Shams resort, part of the Dubai-based Jumeirah hospitality group, said: "Chefs drawn from all the properties operated by the Jumeirah will be involved with the event. Each cake will have 10 portions. The price of cakes will be in the range of Dh20 to Dh30."

The figure 3,065 represents the total number of rooms available with the hotels and resorts operated by Jumeirah in the UAE and overseas.

Jumeirah's iconic properties include Burj Al Arab, Jumeirah Beach Hotel, Madinat Jumeirah, Wild Wadi and Bab Al Shams.

DTCM is spending Dh5 million in the themed week extravaganza. More than 600 chefs from 42 hotels of five and four-star categories are behind the themed week activities.

The Food Surprises has an impressive lineup of more than 300 activities.
