Push for ‘language law’ among options put forward by experts from 70 countries
Dubai: The approval of the ‘Language law’ project was one of the main recommendations during the closing statement of the Second International Conference on Arabic Language, which concluded on May 10. The statement was released on Thursday.
The statement listed the various recommendations that resulted from the two-day conference that saw almost 1,000 Arabic language scholars, academics, experts and aficionados from over almost 70 countries deliberating on ways to widen the appeal of the Arabic language.
The conference, which witnessed 5 main session and 63 lectures, besides 372 research papers, was organised by the International Council for Arabic Language in cooperation with Unesco and the Association of Arab Universities.
The ‘Language law’ project, which regulates the status of the national, regional and foreign languages, was approved and the experts also agreed that a specialised legal entity must be formed to review the law so that it may be sent to all government organisations and establishments that have legislation powers and can enforce it.
Another recommendation was the approval of the ‘Arab Association for Arabisation and Translation’ project and working on finalising the proposal so that the concerned authorities may be approached to take the required steps.
It was also agreed that the next chapter of the conference will be named ‘Investment in the Arabic language and its national, regional and international future’. The statement also urged all those concerned about the Arabic language, whether individuals, government entities or organisations, to spare no effort to help the language prosper.
