Hosts American University in Dubai (AUD) came up with gutsy performances at the end of the AUD-DSF International University Sports Festival which concluded earlier this week.

Sheikh Saeed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum gave away prizes to the various winners at the end of the competition which was held under the patronage of Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the Dubai Technology and Media Free Zone Authority.

The host team went down to American University of Beirut, Lebanon 65-56 in the men's basketball to take the silver medal after seeing their women's team end up with the bronze medal.

This tournament was organised by the AUD under the umbrella of activities of the Dubai Shopping Festival.

Sheikh Saeed attended the final volleyball match between the AUD and the University of Gronigen, Holland. It was an exciting final with the game going into five sets. The team from Holland sized up the AUD team well and won 3-2 in an engrossing final.

In the women's volleyball too, the AUD team had to stay content with the silver medal after losing 3-1 to American University in Dubai Alumni.

Also present at the conclusion of the sports festival were Ibrahim Saleh, DSF's Chief Operating Officer and Dr Lance de Masi, president of the AUD among others.

Dr Lance de Masi, President of AUD thanked the Dubai Shopping Festival for having sponsored this tournament which hosted teams from 13 universities.
