Municipality seizes 727 packages of products of unknown origin
Abu Dhabi: Contraband cosmetics deemed unsafe were seized during a recent inspection at the Arab Markets Exhibition.
The Municipality of Abu Dhabi City, in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (Adnec), carried out the inspection at the exhibition at Adnec.
The drive resulted in the seizure of 727 packages of unknown origin and a number of prohibited substances weighing about 101kg in total.
“The inspection teams, in coordination with the Organising Committee and the management of Adnec, carried out intensive campaigns targeting outlets with the aim of verifying compliance with public health and cleanliness stipulations designated for exhibitions, and whether exhibits conform to the specifications and standards set for consumer goods, in keeping with the municipality’s commitment to safeguard the health of the community,” said Khalifa Al Rumaithi, Director of Public Health at the municipality.
“The municipality will act seriously regarding any breach of the health code and enforce the relevant laws in a bid to foster a safe and healthy shopping environment for all exhibition-goers,” Al Rumaithi added.
The municipality has called on traders and exhibitors to cooperate with the authorities and adhere to the health conditions and standards set for exhibits.
It also cautioned visitors against trading or using items of unknown origin or which breach health stipulations as they are deemed unsafe and can trigger skin diseases and other ailments.
