300 food-centric surprises

Dubai: The Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) is organising 300 events as part of the Food Surprises Week that will run from July 6 to 12.

An exotic array of gourmet and culinary delights is in store with international chefs serving up all that is 'sweet and spicy' for visitors.

A part of Dubai's annual summer retail extravaganza, Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS), the DTCM's Food Surprises Week has more than 300 culinary events including international food carnivals, food plays, live cookery shows, baking of international cakes, food art, carving and garnishing and much more.

Marwan Bin Byat, Chairman of the Food Surprises Committee and DTCM Events Manager, said, "The DTCM has exciting treats in store for adults and children whose appetite will be whetted by the varied taste of international cuisine during the Food Surprises Week."

He said that five shopping malls Mall of the Emirates, Ibn Batutta, BurJuman, Mercato and Deira City Centre and 42 hotels in the four- and five-star categories will join in the activities of the Food Surprises Week.

The opening ceremony slated for July 6 at the Mall of the Emirates will start at 7.30pm with an entertainment programme along with a display of international cuisine.

Some of the exciting events lined up for July 6 at the Mall of the Emirates include the Dubai Cuisine Festival, City of Gold Display by Nestle, Chocolate Charity bag, Cookery competition by Better Life and the Kitchen of International Food by the Emirates Culinary Guild.

A series of edutainment activities have also been lined up with four plays evolving around the theme of food.

"The Secret of Food" play will be staged at the BurJuman Centre daily from July 6-12, the "World of Food" play from July 6-11 at the Ibn Batutta Mall, the Golden Ticket Show at the Deira City Centre daily from July 6 and the International Restaurant Show at the Mall of the Emirates daily from July 6.
