Projector imports into Mideast and Africa to grow 38% by 2011

Dubai: Total projector shipments into Middle East and Africa (MEA) is expected to grow over 38 per cent from 325,000 units in 2008 to 449,000 units by 2011, according to a top official.

"As Euro 2008 kicked off, there should be a surge of about 25 per cent in sales this month especially for requirements from hotels, restaurants, exceptional booths for example in Media City etc, Manish Bakshi, Managing Director of BenQ MEA, said. Market revenue is expected to reach $390 million by 2011 from $367 million in 2008 while the average selling price (ASP) will fall to $867 by 2011 from $1,129 this year.

The Taiwanese firm has a market share of 12 per cent in the UAE and 9.13 per cent of the regional market share and is placed at number three, according to market research firm DTC.

"We expect to become number two with 14 per cent market share in the region," he said.

Manish said special features being cooked in R&D are short throw (72 inch size image) with one-metre distance between projector and screen; Brilliant colour II in whole series data projector; Reduction in noise level; Pocket projectors based on LED technology; Dual Lamp projectors which will enhance lumens.

By 2011, the market shares of SVGA, XGA and HT projectors are expected to be 27 per cent, 70 per cent and three per cent from 41 per cent, 56 per cent, three per cent in 2008.
