If you're like me, you probably spend a fair amount of time trying out new websites. The downside to that is that I'm now registered on countless of websites.
Some of those sites won't be missed, but given the sheer number of new sites on the web, it's difficult to keep track of the goods ones.
Luckily, a group of former Google employees saw this for the opportunity it is, and Friendfeed.com was launched this February. The site doesn't provide much content of its own. Instead, it allows you to keep track of the other social websites that you and your friends belong to. You can keep track of your friend's Twitter posts, latest additions to Picasa Web Albums, ect, on this site.
Friendfeed's ability to interact with other networking sites is a little overwhelming at first. I haven't even heard of a few of the sites it connects too. While the site doesn't offer the ability to keep track of everything out there, it does allow to you to keep track of 41 other sites including popular ones such as Digg, del.icio.us, and YouTube.
However, one of the big names is noticeably absent. I could not find a way to interact with MySpace. The site does work with Facebook, although you must install a friendfeed app to your Facebook profile.
Friendfeed doesn't just rely on input from other social network sites. It allows users to manually share anything you find on the web, although that seems to be redundant since many of the social networks that tie into friendfeed, such as StumbleUpon, already do that. However, having to go to another website just to post something on friendfeed isn't very efficient either.
The only thing I didn't care for on the site was the layout. The site just provides lists of recent updates with no way to filter the results. However, it is new, so updates and changes are inevitable.
That said, this site is likely to grow in popularity. Some people on the web are already calling in the Twitter of 2008.
