Have a ball with UEFA

When you think Web 2.0, you generally don't think of sporting events, but the folks at UEFA did an excellent job of designing an interactive site with all the works.

Even if you're not following the European football tournament, this site deserves some attention. The site offers video feeds for each game, an RSS feed, a mobile portal, and even the ability to imbed a widget into all of the major social websites, like Facebook and MySpace.

If you don't have a place to watch the games or just want to avoid crowded venues, each of the games can be viewed on the site for six euros.

You can view the games live or watch the games you missed. The only issue I had with the services was that the online commentary is only in Arabic.

A half-megabyte Internet connection and a compatible browser, either Internet Explorer (version 6 or 7) or Firefox, is also required.

Even if you can't watch the games, news and scoring are provided in real-time on the site. Free videos, often short game clips or interviews are also available on the website.

Keep track

For anybody who can't get to a computer, mobile.uefa.com allows football fans to keep track of the games with their mobile phones.

My phone is not set up to watch the games live, but the service is available. The mobile site does provide scores, fixtures and other news about the tournament.

For anyone who can't stand to miss a second of the action, the site allows you to download a widget so you can view game results while surfing Facebook, iGoogle, or just about every other social website. Want to stay informed at work on the sly, there is even an RSS feed.

Beyond that, if that isn't enough, the site is loaded with news, photos and segments about the history of the tournament.

The site is almost overwhelming in the amount of information it offers, but footballs fans should love it. Hopefully, it will set the standards for other websites, such as the one for the 2008 Olympic Games.
