Vintage car lovers put on a classic show
Dubai: Classic car enthusiasts from across the UAE marked the 37th National Day celebrations with a stunning display of vehicles dating back nearly 90 years ago.
More than 150 vehicles, all lovingly maintained and polished to prime condition, lined up during the two-day Emirates Classic Car Festival which began on the Khalid Lagoon in Sharjah on Monday and concluded at Dubai Festival City on Tuesday. They included a 1963 Porsche proudly paraded by Ahmad Al Atar from the UAE which was voted the best Classic Luxury car and a 1920 Ford owned by Mohammad Al Jasmi, the winner in the Pre-War category.
There were eight overall category winners singled out by the judging panel at Festival Centre in Dubai at the climax of a colourful programme during the National Day celebrations. The festival was organised by the Automobile and Touring Club of the UAE (ATCUAE) in conjunction with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development, and was supported by Sharjah Old Cars Club and Museum and Dubai Festival City.
"We have a growing community of classic car lovers in the UAE," said ATCUAE President Mohammad Ben Sulayem.
