Abu Dhabi: Ghantoot will be trying to stop Team Emirates from winning their third successive title when the two teams meet in today's final of the Ghantoot Gold Cup Polo Championship.

Team Emirates have won the Emirates Open Championship and the President's Cup, but were beaten 4-9 by Ghantoot in the league phase of this tournament.

So today's final promises to be a close contest with the two teams meeting at 6pm in the six-chukka event at the Ghantoot Racing & Polo Club.

In Wednesday's last league encounter, Ghantoot warmed up for the final with a 12-10 win over Al Habtoor.

Both teams were locked in an intense struggle for supremacy and Carlos Mayon titled the result in Ghantoot's favour with two late goals.

The teams were level 10-10 when the six-goal Argentine pro struck twice in quick succession to end Al Habtoor's challenge and help his side finish unbeaten.

Mayon finished as top scorer with fours goals while Gonzalo Azumendi and UAE national player Nasser Al Shamsi scored three goals each.

The other two goals were scored by Ahmad Bin Desmal.

For Al Habtoor, who were in the lead at the end of the second chukka, Justo Del Carril scored four goals while Fernando Quinto scored three.

Dr Rahman chipped in with two goals and Rashid Al Habtoor added one.

The Ghantoot Gold Cup is being held under the patronage of Shaikh Falah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, GRPC Chairman.

Teams:
