UAE spikers off to a strong start

Doha: The UAE launched their bid for a medal in the men's indoor volleyball competition at the Asian Games with a rousing three sets to one victory over Lebanon at the Al Rayyan auditorium yesterday.

A 25-18 loss in the first set triggered a UAE revival and they reeled off the next three games 25-23, 25-18, 25-23.

Spiker Alasli Hassan played a key role, scoring 26 points and was well supported by Saleh Ebrahim Mousa with ten.

The match was watched by UAE team flag-bearer Shaikha Maitha Bint Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Shaikha Maitha urged the team to maintain their strong start and wished them luck in winning a medal for the country.
