Abu Dhabi: Switzerland's Lawrence Harradine knocked out third seed Khalid Al Hassani of the UAE from the boy's singles event of the Zayed International Juniors Cup ITF junior event.
Khalid, who had a rather easy first round match against Australian Adam De Romas, could not match the superior play of the Swiss youngster.
Harradine swept the UAE off the court with a 6-0, 6-0 win to enter the quarterfinals. Harradine had also won his first round too without dropping a game.
Earlier, top seed Martin Studeny of Czech Republic continued to cruise along while second seed Hamad Esmail of the UAE was once again stretched to three sets.
Studeny kept his slate clean after two matches, winning yesterday's second round 6-0, 6-0 against Russian Stanislav Lyamaev. The top seed now runs into another Russian, Daniil Teslikov.
The qualifier advanced to the quarterfinal with a 7-5, 6-2 upset win over the UAE's Faisal Bastaki, the tournament's fifth seed.
Meanwhile, UAE's Hamad Esmail, the second seed, had to come through another three set encounter. Esmail lost the first set to Aleksa Ilic but soon regained his composure to win the next two sets. He won 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 to book a quarterfinal meeting with seventh seed Cosmin-Christian Andreescu of Romania.
Hong Kong's Ryan Cheung, seeded sixth , also advanced with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Erkin Aleyev of Azerbaijan.
