Dubai: Will Greenwood rolled back the years with an outstanding display of finishing as a star-studded Christina Noble squad made all their experience count with a 24-5 victory over Wooden Spoon in the International Vets Trophy.
The British Lions and England centre claimed a hat-trick of tries for the charity side which also boasted the talents of players such as powerful Samoan Freddie Tuilagi, Canadian winger Dave Lougheed and an array of tough experienced forwards including England 7s rep Chris Sheasby, Australia's Garrick Morgan and Ricky Evans, of Wales.
Greenwood warmed up for the final by taking time out to sign copies of the new IRB World Rugby Yearbook which was launched at the sevens.
And his preparations proved spot on as he put his side ahead, twisting and stretching for the line to claim his first try.
Former Bristol flanker Derek Eves levelled the scores before Greenwood coasted over for his second score before the break.
No second invitation
The TV pundit needed no second invitation in the second period to pounce on a loose kick and canter over from 10 metres out to complete his hat-trick with former Wales seven rep Jon Evans working his way over to complete the scoring.
Christina Noble opened the day with a semifinal win over TOTAL Lions while Wooden Spoon defeated Hamilton Dynamiters.
The foundation aims to raise awareness about the plight of disadvantaged and orphaned children in Vietnam and Mongolia. And Dubai is a vital source of funds with 1,200 people attending a gala dinner at the Grand Hyatt Hotel on Thursday.
