Intriguing action on the cards

Dubai: The Dubai Autodrome is bracing for some intriguing action when it plays host to the fifth and final round of the Grand Racing Championship this weekend.

The final round of the inaugural Grand Racing Championship will consist of the GP2 Asia Series and the Speedcar Series.

The Speedcar Series has been the revelation of the international motorsport season as initial skepticism has been replaced by total enthusiasm for the big V8 stock car series, dubbed "born in Dubai, built for speed".

The sheer spectacle and outright competitiveness of the series has entrenched it as a crowd favourite and Dubai race fans have the added incentive of being able to witness the crowning of a new champion during Grand Racing next Saturday.

With 78 points up for grabs in the two final races, there are five drivers who can grab the title in the final leg.

Realistically, the Champion's trophy is likely to go home with one of three drivers: Frenchman Jean Alesi, Germany's Uwe Alzen or Dubai-based Frenchman David Terrien.
