Team fail to gain two points needed to overtake McLaren
Abu Dhabi: Trailing McLaren by a single point, Ferrari needed two points to overtake them and finish third in the Constructors' Championship but with Kimi Raikkonen and Giancarlo Fisichella finishing 12th and 16th respectively in Sunday's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the season ended on a disappointing note for the Formula One powerhouse.
With Felipe Massa injured and Raikkonen driving the ‘Flying horse' for the last time, Scuderia Ferrari will now have to regroup for next year's championship, which starts with the Bahrain Grand Prix on March 14.
"It's disappointing to see third place in the Constructors' Championship elude us by a single point, but we have to accept the verdict dished out on track," said Ferrari's Stefano Domenicali. "Now we must continue to work on the design of the new car, because we have a very simple aim: that of getting back to being in the fight for race wins. We are very disappointed that this year, we did not give Raikkonen a competitive car and I thank him for never having thrown in the towel, in fact, fighting even harder when the situation was at its trickiest," he said.
Raikkonen, who was looking to sign off with a win, said, "It's a shame to end my time with Ferrari with this result, but this year we have never been in a position to fight for the win at every race, as I would have wished."
Fisichella, who grabbed the chance to drive with Ferrari and left Force India after Massa's accident, said, "I am disappointed that third place got away from us like this."
