Champions named in Damac challenge

Dubai: The final round of the 2008 Damac Sprint Challenge at Dubai Autodrome on Friday was held on what was one of the most temperate evenings of the entire series but humidity did little to help the "speed" of the track surface.

Contestants gave it their best shot as championship titles were to be decided on the night. In the sprint challenge for cars Mohammad Al Falasi scorched around in his powerful Corvette Z06 in 1 minute 13.7 seconds to take Class G by a comfortable margin from second placed Harris Irfan in a Porsche GT3.

The Overall Sprint Challenge Champion for cars was Abdul Hamid Al Awadi in his Honda Civic.

"The taste of wining is really cool, although I was alone in my class, I faced big competition from the timing."

Mohammad Al Arishy was runner up in his BMW M3. Al Falasi who missed one round of the series had to be content with third place overall but with the knowledge he dominated the most competitive Class G.

In the Sprint Challenge for Motorcycles it was the usual suspects setting the pace at the front of the field.

Fastest time

Hennie "Superman" Sauerman was again the class of the field in the "big banger" Class C on his ultra-quick Kawasaki ZX10R posting the night's fastest time.

Hussain Al Kooheji powered his stock Yamaha R6 to yet another victory in Class A over second placed Steve Blackney's Honda CBR and Mahmoud Tannir on a Yamaha R6.
