Dubai: Aidan O'Brien won an unprecedented eighth Abu Dhabi Irish 2000 Guineas (G1) when Power shut out his rivals to win yesterday's renewal of the colt's Classic at the Curragh in Ireland.

Ridden by Joseph O'Brien, the champion handler's 19-year-old son, Power scored by a length from British hopeful Foxtrot Romeo while stable companion Reply was three quarters of length back in third and UAE Derby (G1) hero Daddy Long Legs fourth.

The win gave O'Brien Sr a third Classic of the season following triumphs in both the English 2000 Guineas with Camelot and the fillies' equivalent with Homecoming Queen.

Meanwhile, back in England, Godolphin's Cavalryman bounced back to his winning ways when he secured a comfortable come-from-behind victory in the Listed Stowe Family Law LLP Grand Cup at York.

It was the six-year-old son of Halling's first victory since the Group 2 Prix Niel at Longchamp, France in September 2009.
