Mizzna picked to win seasonal debut

Abu Dhabi: Mizzna, winner of the Group 1 Kahayla Classic in March makes his seasonal debut in the 1,600m Hydra National Day Cup Prep the Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club on Sunday.

Trained in the UAE by Eric Lemartinel, the six-year-old mare is a daughter of the legendary Alanudd and has certainly inherited a lot of her talent.

Jockey Tadhg O'Shea is looking forward to being reunited with her and said: "She is by far the best Purebred Arabian I have sat on and World Cup night was great. I am sure she will follow a similar campaign to last season."

With Rod Simpson having made a flying start from his new Al Asayl base, his Fryvolous could be best of the rest and the trainer likes the horse: "He is a nice sort and one we are looking forward to campaigning this year but the mare (Mizzna) is going to be hard to beat."

Hydra also sponsor a National Day Prep for Thoroughbreds which features a clash between Ans Bach and Emirates Gold - winners of the HH The President's Cup and National Day Cup respectively last season.

Both carry penalties for those victories and the likes of Fenice and Desert Realm have to be feared at the weights.
