Ajtebi hit the big time when he won back-to-back Group 1 races at the 2009 Dubai World Cup meeting at Nad Al Sheba in March. After partnering Gladiatorus (right) to win the $5million Dubai Duty Free, he teamed up with Eastern Anthem (left) to capture the $5 million Dubai Sheema Classic by a nose in a thrilling three-way finish to deny Spanish Moon and Purple Moon.
Ajtebi stunned the world with a tactical start-to-finish victory in the $5 million Dubai Duty Free (Group 1) aboard Gladiatorus to humble a world-class field of jockeys and horses that included 10 Grade or Group I winners. This was his first ever success at the highest level in the sport and made the racing world sit up and take notice of his skills and temperament.
Ajtebi became the first Arab jockey to win a race at the World Thoroughbred Championships when partnering Vale of York to win the Breeders' Cup Juvenile. The horse was trained by Saeed bin Suroor and owned by Godolphin Stables which is based in Dubai and Newmarket, England.
