End of February or early March would suit event better, say organisers
Fujairah: Considering the steady flow of complaints from athletes, the organisers have promised to switch the date of the Fujairah Half Marathon from next year.
“We are already looking at a date at the end of February or early March,” Saleh Al Zahmi, President, Organising Committee, told Gulf News.
“I agree that it is tough for runners to set a good time in such conditions. So it is high on our agenda to find a suitable date that will help the athletes have a better run here next year,” he added.
Race Director Mohammad Saleh Hassan said he hoped to keep on improving the event each year. “We are keen to iron out any sort of mistakes that we might be making. The date is one of the things we have to look at, but there are other smaller aspects that we also need to pay attention to,” Hassan said.
“Ideal conditions for road-running should be between 10 to 15 degrees, but today it was 34 degrees at 6am. These are definitely not ideal conditions.”
Now in its second year, the Fujairah Half Marathon had a total of 1,618 runners registered for the half marathon and the 10km runs.
