Unbeaten centuries by Iftikhar and Saqib

Abu Dhabi: Unbeaten centuries by Haroon Iftikhar and Saqib Shah helped Abu Dhabi Gymkhana register a 92-run win over United Bank Limited (UBL) in the Abu Dhabi Duty Free Trophy B division cricket tournament, here over the weekend.

Iftikhar and Shah helped Gymkhana reach 309 for 2 in their 25 overs and then restricted the Bankmen, comprising of former ECB stars, to 217 for 7.

The two centurions came together when Gymkhana had lost both their openers for just 21 and stayed at the crease till the score reached 309.

Shah belted seven sixes and an equal number of boundaries in his 60-ball innings of 124, while his partner was in an equally punishing mood.

Iftikhar thrashed the UBL bowlers with 12 fours and five sixes in his 65-ball 139. Tahseen Zaidi (82 off 49 balls) with four fours and six sixes was assisted by Kaif Ghouri (30), Amjad Ali (28) and Khalid Munir (28), but UBL's run chase was always found wanting.

Other centurions on a sultry day were Faisal Iqbal for Esnaad and Rajesh Kumar of Avis Rent-a-Car, while Kamal Rohan from Esnaad and Fayyaz Ahmad of Atlas Telecommunication shared the bowlers' honours with five-wicket hauls.

Esnaad scored a 62-run win over Thrifty Cricket Club, while Avis Rent-a-Car posted a massive 169-run win over NBBI. In the other match, Al Masaood Nissan Automobiles beat Rocks by six wickets.
