Dubai: Former Pakistan captain Javed Miandad has urged the Pakistan players, who trained at the national camp being held in Abbottabad, to draw inspiration from India’s star batsman Sachin Tendulkar.
Miandad, who was invited to address the Pakistan team in preparation for the Champions Trophy to be held in England and Wales from June 6-23, said: “Tendulkar is a shining example and every player needs to learn from him to excel at the top level.”
Miandad emphasised on the importance of hard work and commitment to be successful as a cricketer. “I gave them Tendulkar’s example who is still playing Test cricket only because of his tremendous commitment and hard work. He is an ideal role model for the present generation because of his achievements and if they want to be successful as players, they must follow in his footsteps,” he said.
Elaborating on how hard work can help bring in success, Miandad said: “No matter how much coaching or advice you are given, nothing can replace the hard work and commitment that you put into your game everyday.”
Miandad, who has 8832 Test runs at an average of 52.57 and 7381 One-day International runs at an average of 41.70 and is hailed as one of Pakistan’s greatest batsman, also stressed on the importance of learning from regular practice.
“If you practice every day, you will learn something new about batting every day and it is absolutely necessary to keep on practising and working hard. No matter how talented you are, everyday and every match is a new challenge.”
Miandad went on to narrate how daily practice helped him remain consistent. “I used to practice every day even when we had no team commitments. I have learned something during all practice sessions,” he said.
