Report: Gavaskar to step down from ICC

Mumbai: Ex-Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar is to be asked to step down as the ICC chairman due to a conflict of interests, according to reports.

ICC members are apparently unhappy with Gavaskar's honorary post and his paid role as a columnist and commentator.

Gavaskar, who has been a controversial figure in the sport since his retirement, has been defending his criticism of Mike Procter, after he had ruled against India's Harbhajan Singh for alleged racial abuse of Andrew Symonds in January's Sydney test against Australia.

Procter's ruling was subsequently overruled by an appeals commissioner.

The ex-India captain recently described England and Australia as "dinosaurs, still trying to voice their prejudiced opinions in the media, and may not open their eyes and see the reality.''
