James Anderson took 5-49 and Steven Finn 3-20, while Shoaib Malik was Pakistan's topscorer with 38 from 53 balls, with six fours, before bad light stopped play at Trent Bridge on Friday.
Earlier, Mohammad Asif took 5-77, as England lost its last six wickets for 17 runs.
Eoin Morgan was out for 130 while Paul Collingwood departed for 82.
