Umm Al Quwain: Khatri Cricket Club, who were enroute to win the third tournament of the season, were forced to give a walk over in the final of the Property Solutions Cricket Tournament.

"This tournament had been going on for nearly four months and the Umm Al Quwain council could not complete the tournament. My players had to go on holidays and so I could not field my team," Safdar Khatri, Khatri Club captain told Gulf News.

Khatri Club had won the Ajman City Tower tournament, Sharjah Twenty20 tournament and had defeated Al Futtaim Motors Toyota to reach the Property Solutions final.

"We requested the organisers to stage the tournament in September since they had delayed the tournament so long but they refused," said Khatri.

Eslam Group Cricket Team, who had got past Rufi Real Estate in the semifinals, were declared winners by the Umm Al Quwain council.

Juggling dates

Explaining the council's position, Mushtaq Ahmad, the chief organiser said: "We try our best to accommodate the teams as per their convenience.

"Many teams that play in our tournaments play in the Sharjah Council tournaments. We conduct our tournaments under the aegis of the Sharjah Council and hence we have to postpone the dates of some of the matches if they clash with the Sharjah tournaments. Hence our tournament dates get stretched for months."

Umm Al Quwain had conducted 11 tournaments this season.
