India trounce Sri Lanka to record 100th Test win

It was also India's biggest margin of victory over Sri Lanka surpassing their previous best

Duba: India trounced Sri Lanka by an innings and 144 runs in the second Test match at Kanpur to record their 100th Test victory on Friday.

The victory gave them a 1-0 lead in the three match series.

The triumph was special because it was also India’s biggest margin of victory over Sri Lanka surpassing their previous best of an innings and 119 runs win at Lucknow in 1994.

The architect of India’s victory was Shantakumaran Sreesanth, who wrecked Sri Lanka in the first innings with a deadly spell of 5 for 75.

Batting first, India had posted 642 runs through centuries from Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir and Rahul Dravid.

Sri Lanka, who were forced to follow on were bowled out for 269 runs in the second inning before tea on the fourth day. Thilan Samaraweera hit a fighting unbeaten 78 while Harbhajan Singh took 3 for 98 to give India a memorable victory.
