Alleppey prevail in clash of the giants

Dubai: In a match touted as the rehearsal before the final of the Kerala Premier League (KPL) Consolidated Shipping Services Alleppey defeated Dunes Cuisine Kannur Veterans by three wickets.

Kannur were restricted to 127 for 8 through the deadly spell of UAE vice captain Mohammad Tauqir (3 for 14) and Asif Iqbal (2 for 18). Alleppey then raced to victory in 18 overs through Irfan Haji's half century.

Speaking to Gulf News, Hareesh Menon, the skipper of the Alleppey team, said: "It is indeed a creditable victory as Kannur is virtually the UAE national team with almost all the top players in their squad. We won mainly through our tight bowling and Haji's fine batting.."

UAE star batsman Saqib Ali, who played against England recently for ICC Combined Associate and Affiliate team top scored for Kannur with 32 runs.

Though C.T.K. Mashood also produced an allround show for Kannur with 26 runs and took three wickets, his effort went in vain.
