Pakistan Islamia and Gems Winchester record emphatic victories
Ajman: School cricketers were at their best in the Elite School League, conducted by Robin Singh Sports Academy with Aster and Transworld Group as title sponsors at the Ajman MCC ground.
The league produced not only centuries but also deadly bowling spells and spectacular all-round performances.
Qasim Suleiman and Mohammad Sajid of Pakistan Islamia Higher Secondary School Sharjah and Ahaan Fernandis of Cambridge International School Dubai cracked centuries, while Affan Abdullah and Mohammad Kazim produced five-wicket hauls.
UAE’s Under-16 cricketer Shoun Roger produced one of the finest all-round shows with a half century and a three-wicket spell for Our Own English High School.
Watched by Indian Test star and renowned coach Robin Singh, who visualised this tournament and opened the doors of this tournament free of cost to the schools in order to spot and groom talent, the youngsters gave their best.
Openers Suleiman’s unbeaten knock of 107 and Aizaz’s unconquered 105 steered Pakistan Ismalia to 272 for no loss in 20 overs against Crescent English High School.
Mohammad Kazim then produced a five-wicket spell conceding just nine runs to ensure Pakistan Islamia a 210-run victory.
Cambridge International School’s Fernandis’s knock of 106 and Afaan Abdullah’s spell of five for 15) guided their team to an 82-run win over Ryan International School.
The best all-round show came from Rogers who followed up his three wicket spell for three runs with a knock of 56 to destroy The Winchester School Jebel Ali.
It was a special half century for Roger. Speaking to Gulf News, Rogers said: “This was my 25th half century of the season. I had also hit four centuries through Emriates Inter School and Inter academy tournaments. I keep a record of my knocks and tournaments like this gets me the chance to perform. This is my 85TH half century,” said Roger
