Al Nasr retain top spot after close clash

Dubai: Al Nasr retained the top place in the First Division Volleyball League after defeating Al Jazira 3-2 (25-22, 18-25, 25-20, 21-25 and 15-10), in a tough match in the 10th stage held at the Rashid Bin Hamdan indoor sports hall at the Al Nasr club.

Al Nasr, who had dominated the league in the last five seasons, found the going tough against a well organised Al Jazira side in a match that lasted nearly two hours.

The win put Al Nasr on top of the standings with 25 points, 1 more than Al Shabab who were on top for just 24 hours after beating Ajman 3-1.

However, Al Shabab can still be on top provided they beat Bani Yas in their next away match.

Al Jazira have 13 points. Bani Yas also have 13 points, following their 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-21) win over Hatta, who are currently in the 10th place with 5 points.

In other matches played in the 10th stage of the league, Al Wasl beat Al Ittihad 3-0 and Al Ahli defeated Al Rams 3-0.

First-round matches of the league will conclude on Friday.

In the 11th stage, Al Ahli meet Al Ittihad, Ajman meet Al Ain, Al Jazira clash with Al Rams, Al Wasl play against Hatta while Bani Yas lock horns with Al Shabab in what will be an important match for the latter.
