Uniformity will raise standards

The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) has taken a positive first step in recently releasing a comprehensive report on the inspection of schools in the emirate. The attempt by the organisation to classify schools and link these classifications to recent fee increases - some of them quite hefty - could prove to be a catalyst in raising the standard of education in Dubai.

It could also encourage schools to make a renewed surge towards improving the quality of education and facilities offered to their students. The point to note, however, is to maintain a unified platform of gradation. English schools, Indian schools and Arabic-speaking schools often apply their own parameters when recognising quality. This in turn gives rise to differing standards. When it comes to education, adequate efforts must be made to ensure that quality standards are unified. The KHDA can then suggest areas of improvement based on these parameters.
