Toothless UN memo will not stop genocide
The pathetic statement issued by the United Nations Security Council will not stop the Israeli aggression against Gaza. The non-binding statement, which calls for "an end to all the violence", will not save the lives of the Palestinian children who are being slaughtered in their schools. Obviously the US Secretary of State and other hypocritical Western officials do not care about the children of Palestine. One wonders if those politicians believe the children of Gaza have the right to live like children in other parts of the world.
The children of Gaza do not live like other children. They are born under a death sentence. Few of them make it to adulthood. They might dream - like other children - of growing up to become a pilot or an astronaut. But the majority of them never get a chance to live even a normal life.
Even during Eid and Christmas, they do not wish for a gift. They only hope that Israel will stop killing them.
The children of Gaza, who inspired a generation of freedom seekers in the 1980s when they defied the might of Israel with the now-famous little rocks, know they are being targeted by Israel. They realise that Israel makes sure that its bombs fall on schools and nurseries. They are the future of Palestine. They are the ones who will carry on the national dream of independence.
The entire world is watching the public execution of the Palestinian future. But we have not heard even from Unicef. The international community has the moral responsibility to protect the children of Gaza. The Israeli madness must be stopped.
Those children do not need spineless statements from the likes of Ban Ki-moon. They need a UN resolution that must be implemented to protect them.
