Sowing the seeds of a green Earth

For an endeavour to succeed, its start has to begin with the right step. Therefore, any environmental initiative would be able to achieve great strides if it involves people, especially children and young adults.

The recent announcement by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) of its plans to enable Dubai schools to go green is laudable.

Accordingly, all schools have to follow the highest environmentally-friendly standards. "Starting with the curriculum and then the infrastructure, we hope to do our part to immerse pupils in these [green] concepts from their first day of learning," said Dr Abdullah Al Karam, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director General of KHDA.

The introduction of a 'green' scheme in schools would be an interesting experiment. If successful, it may well prove to be vital for the future of any environmental initiative, not only in Dubai but in the entire country as well.
