By nurturing young minds to take to scientific enquiry, UAE is aiding innovation
The integration of classroom theoretics and practical applications is key to the concept of development in its widest sense for any society. One of the drivers of this integration, at different levels in the UAE, is the National Robot Olympiad. Launched in 2008, the event is propelling young minds into the rich, evolutionary sphere of scientific and mathematical innovation each year by providing them with a great platform to display their knowledge in these domains. In doing so, it is helping students realise and fill the gaps in their knowledge in this field with an awareness that is critical to ensure progress.
The purpose of the Olympiad is also gaining greater focus each year as evidenced by the growing numbers of participants — from 30 teams in 2008 to 379 this year. What is of significance is that the event includes the very young — the under-13s — and their push for creativity, which is a strong indicator that the UAE is ensuring it creates the required depth in its knowledge treasury. The earlier young minds are nurtured to yoke their knowledge to applicability in all spheres of learning, the faster they can redefine the era of innovation.
