Rice needs a reality check
Nothing could be more indicative of the failure in the performance of the current US administration than comments given out by its officials. Not only do they reflect a failure in assessment but also that of its consequences.
US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is the latest example. She said that she was "proud" of the US decision to invade Iraq as an act of "liberation" of the Iraqi people, that Al Qaida was "on its heels", and that "democratic forces" are emerging in the occupied Palestinian territories.
"In the post-9/11 environment, you could not let a threat to peace exist. I know that great historical events go through difficult phases and often emerge with the world left for the better," Rice said.
Rice is surely in a dire need of a reality check as such comments are at best, a misinterpretation of world events, and at worst reflect the level of ignorance and denial of what is really taking place around the globe.
Iraq is still an occupied nation, Al Qaida continues to thrive, and the Palestinians are yet to obtain justice.
The policies of the current administration have transformed the world - making it less possible for peace to exist.
