Preserving the past for the future

A decision has been made to introduce a law to preserve and protect the historic sites of Dubai. The measure will be welcomed by everyone who may have feared that with the rapid development of the emirate, "all things old" would be torn down, to be replaced with only that which is new, and preferably of skyscraper proportions. Perhaps an irony is that, as a young nation, the law will refer to all buildings that were built before 1960, as there are many people who would think buildings of that period are not historically significant.

Over the years the Dubai Municipality has developed an active section that identifies and preserves buildings that are of historic, cultural and religious importance to the nation. The personnel involved have developed an expertise that is on a par with that found anywhere; so all encouragement must be given to the Municipality to continue the good works.
