Israel displays its criminal side once again

The intensification of Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip over the past couple of days is likely to be attributed to the Jewish state's inability to cope with Hamas's latest successful operation - two days ago, Palestinian fighters killed three Israeli soldiers and injured seven others.

The immediate Israeli knee-jerk reaction was of course to bomb the Gaza Strip continuously until it was deemed sufficient by Israeli leadership.

Tel Aviv is infamous for breaking all kinds of international laws if it means preventing the deaths of its people; this includes daily aerial and ground attacks on Gaza and killing of innocent Palestinian civilians. This is because the Jewish state has always been paranoid about looking weak against a few Palestinian fighters who use nothing more than primitive weapons.

Of course, there is a major contrast between the method employed by the Palestinian resistance and Israel in this unequal conflict. Whilst Hamas fighters have targeted military posts, Tel Aviv has killed more than 22 people over the past 48 hours - including a Reuters cameraman who stood next to a vehicle bearing "TV" and "Press" markings on it.

Israel is now grappling with the notion that Palestinian fighters are achieving their goals and are able to target strategic Israeli areas and put up a fight. It is even more mindboggling for Tel Aviv to accept that its exaggerated and brutal attacks against Gazans have had very little, if any, effect on weakening Palestinian resistance. No doubt the latest Israeli deaths have shaken Israel. For one, the Ehud Olmert government has to find a way to answer to Israeli people's new worries.

In reaction to the latest Israeli killings, Israeli Defence Minister Ehud Barak said that Gaza's plight is a concern but Israeli suffering is more important. As long as this criminal mentality prevails, there can be no justice for Palestinians.
