The Arabian Gulf region is one of the most sensitive when it comes to issues of security and stability. Opting to heighten tensions in the region therefore is not beneficial for any party, as the repercussions would be long-lasting.

Iran has announced its intention to launch two more rockets into space in the next few months. "We hope that Iran's first home-produced satellite will be launched in the summer," said Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

There is no question about Iran's right to develop any of its technological capabilities given their abidance by international regulations and law. Iran is a sovereign nation and as such holds the right to chart its course of action. But it is a fact that the country is situated in a volatile region that cannot afford any instability.

Furthermore, Iran should not brush away the seriousness of international efforts to put a cap on its nuclear ambitions. Any military escalation puts the security of all the region's countries at a grave risk.

There is a very fine line between what is rightful and what is not. Disregarding that, an arms race is a hindrance and is a dangerous game that would only bring about harmful consequences.
