Honesty is still the best policy

The elegance of honesty practised by a few of us gives hope to all humanity. In today's world where most of the news is about bombs and disasters, a news item about an honest deed with a happy ending comes as a whiff of fresh air. One such example of refined integrity is Mohammad Al Sharif, a taxi driver in Abu Dhabi.

One day, he found in his taxi an envelope containing Dh40,000. His first instinct, and that is the interesting part, was to look for the owner. Of course, she was surprised. At a time when prices of basic necessities are depressingly high, Al Sharif's honesty is considered somewhat unusual.

When life is full of tragedies and heartless criminals, Al Sharif stands out for his extraordinary action. He should be commended for his noble deed.

It was also great to learn that Al Sharif was rewarded by his passenger and his company. If nothing, it encourages everyone else out there to always do the right thing - be honest.
