Dubai has taken the lead to set the Global Agenda at a three-day summit for the forthcoming World Economic Forum (WEF) that was launched in Dubai by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on Friday.

There will be 68 Global Agenda Councils represented at the Summit, each bringing together the finest minds in its sector to propose solutions to key issues and help shape a post-crisis world.

The event takes place at a time when the global economy is reeling from a financial crisis triggered by the US housing market slump under a regime that was more interested in chasing extremists and regime changes in different parts of the world, than focusing on core economic issues.

While the US economy was in shambles, its government was more interested in Iraq, Afghanistan, Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo.

As a result, what was primarily a US domestic economic problem, has escalated to become a global crisis - impacting the rest of the world.

The event takes place just three days after the US electorate handed down their historic verdict rejecting the policies of the last eight years. It's an interesting time to look ahead with renewed hope and change for the better.

The event, which will bring together 700 leading global thinkers, leaders, businessmen, financial experts and intellectuals, will brainstorm on the latest global financial crisis. Which city other than Dubai - that defied the global economic meltdown - qualifies better to host such a summit?

Anyone scratching their head for a solution to the present crisis, should just look around in Dubai - there are plenty of examples on how an economy could be steered to succeed. Dubai's vision-driven growth story is a textbook for many who want to find solutions to the present global crisis. It is not a fairytale - it's real.
