Don't rest on past laurels
The contribution of Arab and Muslim scientists to modern science is a well-established fact as it historically played a major role in the development of various societies. The achievements of the past therefore, should be built on and taken forward.
His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, inaugurated the first International Conference on the Arab and Muslim history of science, which aims at highlighting the contributions of the Islamic civilisation to the world.
"We want to show the world the true worth and greatness of this nation, the Arab Islamic nation, whose scientific knowledge has extended to embrace all cultures," said Professor Hamid Al Naimi, Chairman of the Organising Committee.
But a critical part of this process is based on looking at the future. Arab and Muslim scientists today have to make their contributions relevant and present.
