A good collection of Emirati films showcases local talent and creativity

As the Dubai International Film Festival (Diff) concludes its programme in its seventh edition, the organisers of this event should be commended for what they have been able to achieve over the past seven years. But perhaps what stood out this year is Diff's serious attempt to find the best means possible to improve on its performance and delivery.
The star and film line-up for the festival has been undoubtedly excellent. There were no less than 157 films participating from 75 countries which offered a wide variety in terms of content to viewers. The list of films in fact had showed the commitment to showcase the art of film-making from various parts of the world.
Yet what is also significant about this year's Diff is the fact that Arab entries have been more, with the participation of 70 Arab films — some of which are covering controversial topics. In addition, this year there has been a good collection of Emirati films. And perhaps it is here where the festival plays the most constructive role — that is enabling the film industry in the region to showcase its talent and creativity.
