An efficient and transparent step
In order to achieve high standards of efficiency and productivity, a level of transparency has to be instituted as part of any operation within all government entities. Hence, the recent decision to set up an authority in Abu Dhabi to promote transparency is a welcome step. President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan has issued a law setting up a new entity with the aim of increasing accountability and transparency in government agencies in Abu Dhabi, including business units in which the government holds a substantial interest.
The Abu Dhabi Accountability Authority (ADAA) is to function as an independent corporate body. There are many areas that the activities of ADAA would cover, perhaps the most important being ensuring the accuracy of financial reports. Such a task would surely ensure that efficiency and transparency are the rules to be followed by all entities rather than the exception. The importance of such a set-up is crucial - as the government has rightly recognised it as being the cornerstone for any future projects and developmental plans. This would not only make sure that the emirate's agenda is followed as planned, but that they are being executed as per the highest rules and standards.
