Style trend: The best bright jeans

Unless you've been living on the moon for the past four seasons, you can't have failed to notice that basic old blue jeans simply don't cut it any more.

Quite possibly the biggest and most successful denim trend since Kate Moss decreed the world should bin their bootcuts and slip into some skinnies (1), coloured jeans (and yes, skinny ones at that!) have become the most desirable denims on the planet, with literally everyone who is hip'n'happening in Hollywood rocking them (2).

With red the standout celeb fave regardless of the season, jewel tones were a winter must, but this spring, it's all about the pastels.

From rose petal pink and minty green to juicy peach and sherbet lemon, if you needed an excuse to ditch those trusty dark denims, this is it. Super summery and surprisingly wearable (3), cast aside any fears of looking like a kids' TV presenter circa 1984, and check out how the A-list are wearing them if you needed further convincing. Blue, oh stylish people, this season simply won't do.

2. Alexa Chung, Amanda Seyfried, Whitney Port, SJP, Heidi Klum, Jessica Alba and Rachel Bilson are just a few celebs who are in love with their brightly coloured denims. 

3. Coloured jeans look best offset with neutrals, soft metallics or other sweet-counter shades. Try and avoid black if you can - it kind of spoils the fun and fresh effect.
