Abu Dhabi: The Indian Embassy will open seven counters and a 24-hour telephone help line for amnesty seekers with the cooperation of community organisations, said the officials of the embassy.

"This was decided in a meeting of community organisations today, convened by the embassy. The counters and telephone help line at the embassy are expected to start functioning from Monday [July 9]. Apart from embassy official's volunteers from community organisations will also be present in the system to help the illegal workers. The help-line number will be announced soon."

The meeting has decided to set up special team to coordinate with the Ministry of Labour and Emigration Department.

"The embassy is awaiting the response from prominent airlines to set up 'low fair ticket counter' at the embassy premises. We sent official communiqué today to airlines operating to India.

"Whoever quotes the cheapest air fare will be allowed to open a ticket counter in the embassy," said the embassy officials.
